Traditional Indonesian Gado Gado

I decided several times in my life to once and for all become a vegetarian. I would succeed for two weeks just to see myself fall back in my old eating pattern after struggling. But thank God for Gado Gado! This made my journey to eat more vegetables so much easier.

Gado gado is an Indonesian vegetable dish. It’s super versatile and you can easily mix and match with your favorite vegetables. This classic dish would normally consist of boiled potatoes, long beans, bean sprouts, cabbage, cucumber, tofu and topped with an amazing peanut sauce.

Serves 4-6

  • 2 whole corn
  • 4 cups of spinach
  • 6 potatoes (I mixed regular with sweet ones)
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 firm tahu/tofoe
  • 1 pack of tempe
  • 2 tablespoon bread crumbs / panko 
  • 1 fresh chili pepper or dried chili 
  • 1 teaspoon palm sugar
  • 1 free range egg
  • 1 cup of white beans (optional)
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 4 garlic, finely chopped or use a garlic press
  • 2 tablespoon of red wine
  • 400 gram pre packed tomatoes in carton box (don’t buy canned ones)  
  • 2 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoon of coconut oil
  • sea salt and pepper to taste

Peanut Sauce

  • 1/2 cup of raw peanuts (fried)
  • 1 cup of white beans (optional)
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 4 garlic, finely chopped or use a garlic press
  • 2 tablespoon of red wine
  • 400 gram pre packed tomatoes in carton box (don’t buy canned ones)  
  • 2 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoon of coconut oil
  • sea salt and pepper to taste
